    Overview:
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) is looking for postdoctoral trainees who want to build their careers by assisting in our mission to provide global leadership in toxicology research and the scientific basis for programs, activities, and policies that promote health or lead to the prevention of disease. This program is headquartered at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), one of the National Institutes of Health, and is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Created in 1978, NTP plays a critical role in generating, interpreting, and sharing toxicological information about potentially hazardous substances in our environment. NTP strives to remain at the cutting edge of scientific research and the development and application of new technologies for modern toxicology and molecular biology. A world leader in toxicology research, NTP has evaluated thousands of environmental substances for potential human health effects. The NTP strives to obtain the best scientific data using the best research strategies and technologies. The program is committed to impartiality and rigorous scientific peer review and maintains its activities open to public scrutiny and input. The NTP also convenes conferences, workshops, and panel meetings on important public health topics to bring interested parties together to openly exchange ideas and debate issues.

    Job Description:
The NTP provides a broad-based training that is applicable to careers in regulatory science and industrial toxicology. This position is a non-laboratory based position in the Toxicology Branch within the Division of the National Toxicology Program at NIEHS. Trainees will work in an office-based scientific environment to serve as project leaders to design and interpret appropriate in vivo and in vitro studies, primarily conducted at external contract research organizations (CROs) to evaluate the toxicological potential of substances of interest to the NTP. Trainees will actively participate in the design, conduct, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting of findings from toxicological studies. Trainees will have extensive interaction with staff from scientific disciplines such as chemistry, pathology, toxicokinetics, toxicogenomics, informatics, genetics, statistics, and molecular biology as well as external stakeholders in the regulatory sciences. They will participate in the broader NTP efforts to develop novel strategies for predictive toxicology and high-throughput screening. It is expected that trainees will author both reports in peer-reviewed NTP reports, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. Trainees will also be given the opportunity to present scientific findings in a variety of settings, both internal to the NTP and external at local and national conferences and meetings.

    Stipend/Benefits:
The postdoctoral training program funds fellowships at the NIEHS for up to five years. Stipends are determined by the amount of previous postdoctoral experience1. Medical insurance is provided.
