    Position Objective:

    Creatively translate technical scientific writing into text that is accurate, interesting, and understandable to both scientists and non-scientists

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Conduct independent online research and analyze technical documents to draft news releases, blogs, newsletters, website text, tweets, Facebook posts, and other materials for both a technical and lay audience
    • Coordinate between PETA scientists and other PETA/FSAP departments to ensure the timely completion of projects that are both interesting and factually accurate
    • Contribute to the written content of the PETA Regulatory Testing Department and PETA International Science Consortium websites
    • Draft letters and email responses to inquiries from the media, donors, and the public
    • Review articles to be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and provide suggestions to improve the language, for example, to make it more understandable or interesting
    • Proofread and edit science publications, letters, and other public communications
    • Maintain expertise in non-animal testing methods
    • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

  • Qualifications:


    Position Requirements    

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in a field requiring science and writing skills (e.g., science or journalism)
    • Minimum of several years of creative science writing experience
    • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, proofreading skills, and ability to write with creativity and technical accuracy
    • Excellent knowledge of professional, technical, scientific, and legal terminology and writing conventions
    • Strong knowledge of animal rights issues and non-animal testing methods
    • Ability to establish priorities and apply knowledge in a time-pressured, deadline-intensive environment
    • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret technical issues
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of scientists and media representatives
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality at all times
    • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
