Thuringian animal protection prize for a database on errors of animal experiments Featured

The developers of a database on errors of animal experiments from the animal welfare unit of the Jena University Hospital received this year's Thuringian Animal Welfare Award. For the first time, the prize was also offered for developments in the field of reduction of animal testing.

The CIRS-LAS project is a Europe-wide, anonymous reporting system for risk events in laboratory animal science. It is intended to help to avoid errors and thus to minimize the number of experiments.

The portal registers Europe-wide reports on incidents and complications during the performance of animal experiments. The project team led by Dr. Sabine Bischoff evaluates these messages as well as makes the information available to registered users.

In addition, solutions, tips and proven measures to increase safety in animal experiments are published on the platform.

According to the developers and the jury's conviction, the platform thus helps to reduce the number of laboratory animals, to improve study and treatment safety, and helps to avoid repetition of studies that do not lead to the desired results. In addition, seminars and Further training courses offered via the portal.
