Würzburg: Drug research to combat SARS-CoV-2 using respiratory organoids Featured

Würzburg researchers at the Fraunhofer Translational Center for Regenerative Medicine therapies (TLZ-RT) together with the virologist Professor Jochen Bodem from the Julius Maximilians University (JMU) Würzburg investigate active ingredients against the SARS-CoV-2. For this purpose, they use special tissue models.

Using organoids of the respiratory mucosa, they are testing defined substances for their effectiveness against the proliferation of SARS-CoV-2. They also want to know how the infection with the coronavirus affects the barrier function of the mucus formation of their respiratory tract model.
