CellINK acquires MatTek Featured

Sweden-based 3D bioprinting specialist CELLINK is to acquire technology company MatTek Corporation. The aim is, among other things, to reduce animal testing and, in some cases, even abolish them.

MatTek Corporation, a Boston-based life science company, producing laboratory-grown human tissue for nearly 30 years, has entered into an agreement to be acquired by CELLINK, a leader in bioprinting, multi-omics, cell line development, and diagnostics.

MatTek's tissue models are used in product development and regulatory testing of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics as well as personal care products in North America, Europe, and Asia as a more physiologically relevant alternative to animal testing. The companies expect that this will result in several strong synergies through the combination of CELLInk's state-of-the-art bioprinting technology and modular, large-scale robotic workflows with MatTek's 3D-reconstructed human-derived tissue models.

The acquisition price was reported to be $68 million.
