OECD publishes new test guideline on skin sensitization Featured

The OECD has published a new test guideline. It describes several defined approaches to classify skin sensitization potential that are equivalent or even superior to the information provided by the mouse Local Lymph Node Assay.

A Defined Approach consists of a selection of information sources (e.g., in silico predictions, in chemistries, in vitro data) used in a specific combination. The resulting data are interpreted using a specified data interpretation procedure (e.g., a mathematical, rule-based model). By combining methods, it should be possible to overcome certain limitations of the individual, stand-alone methods.

According to the OECD platform statement, the defined approaches included in this guideline have been shown to either provide the same level of information or to be more informative than the mouse Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA; OECD TG 429).
