Foundation stone laid for two buildings for cell-based therapies and human organ models Featured

A foundation stone will be laid on Seestraße in Berlin-Wedding on Friday, July 2. In the newly constructed buildings, cell-based therapies will be researched and developed, and human cell and organ functions will be simulated in the research center "the simulated human" in order to reduce animal testing.

At the "Berlin Center for Advanced Therapies" (BeCAT), teams of Charité researchers will develop next-generation drugs. The goal is to use cell-based therapies to specifically restore the health of patients with previously incurable diseases.

Right next door, in the research center "The Simulated Human" (Si-M), then scientists from Charité University Hospital and the Technical University of Berlin are researching together on the modeling of human cell and organ functions in order to simulate the complex mechanisms of human health as well as the pathogenesis of diseases. The further development of human organ models is also expected to make an important contribution to the further reduction of animal experiments.

The research buildings are being financed with nearly 68 million from state and federal funds, completion is planned for 2023.
