SARS-Cov2: Infection research with mammalian cells Featured

Researchers from the Institute of Infectious Diseases (IFIK) at the University of Bern and from the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) have infected respiratory epithelial cells of various mammalian species with SARS-Cov2. By this means and with the help of genome sequencing, they were able to determine that the cells of monkeys and cats can be particularly easily infected by SARS-CoV-2.

The results could be used to introduce SARS-CoV-2 surveillance at the human-animal interface.
