European Medicines Agency intends to minimize animal testing in drug development Featured

With the help of its own Innovation Task Force (ITF), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) aims to help developers to replace, reduce and refine animal testing during the development, manufacture and testing of human and veterinary medicines.

With this support, the EMA aims to facilitate the development and implementation of so-called New Approach Methods (NAMs). The ITF is a multidisciplinary group for early dialogue between regulatory authorities and drug developers; it aims to facilitate the integration of appropriate NAMs.

According to the EMA's website, the measure is in line with the EMA's Science Strategy for Regulation by 2025.
