Resolution: European Parliament highlights the importance of animal-free methods Featured

The European Parliament has welcomed the European Commission's plan To strengthen Europe's fight against cancer, on Feb. 16, 2022, and stressed the importance of animal-free methods.

In the decision, the European Parliament asked the Commission to develop new synergies between the plan, the EU4Health program, the European Medicines, Chemicals, and Industrial Strategy.

Investing in the development of new non-animal methods, such as in silico testing methods or the use of organoids, would be highly important to shorten pre-clinical observation periods, make research more efficient, and reduce unnecessary experiments on animals, the resolution said.

Since animal testing is often less reliable, non-animal methods should be used to test for the
carcinogenicity of environmental chemicals to provide more relevant information.
