Charité-3R: 10 new research projects in the 3R field are supported with 1.3 million euros Featured

Among the ten funded projects, some human 3D models and in silico methods will also be funded.

These include the establishment of a human nerve cell-based model to treat SynGAP syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that leads to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder.

Another project is to develop a human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived model for high-throughput screening of compounds to treat Alzheimer's disease.

In addition, an immune-competent and autologous lung organoid model will be developed to test the efficacy and safety of virus-specific T-cell products against influenza infections. The model will use patient-derived T cells isolated from the blood of the same donors from which lung organoids are generated.

In another project, a prediction tool for atrial fibrillation will be developed using a machine learning tool. It is based on the analysis Gq signaling pathway. By using preprocessed data from electrocardiography, echocardiography, left atrial angiography, hemodynamics, and 3D electroanatomical mapping, the machine learning tool will be able to detect novel patterns and could provide more accurate predictions than conventional animal studies.
