The development and use of innovative alternative non-animal research models is consistent with the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiative (link is external) to reduce animal testing.

While they do not rule out animal testing, they recognize unique opportunities in the use of new innovative technologies to expand the toolbox for researchers to answer previously difficult or unanswerable biomedical research questions.
