Deadline October 15: CAAT Reduction Grant and Humane Education Grant 2025 Featured

The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is accepting applications for the 2025 Reduction Grant and the 2025 Humane Education Grant until October 15.


Reduction Grant
This grant supports research projects that aim to reduce the use of animals by identifying areas where animal models lack reproducibility and transferability. It is intended for researchers who conduct systematic reviews, meta-analyses, citation analyses, or similar work with the goal of reducing the use of animals in science.

Humane Education Grant
This grant supports the development of animal-free training materials for veterinary, medical, or laboratory education. It is intended for educators and instructional material developers who wish to promote respect and compassion for animals through innovative teaching materials.

Grant Details
- Each grant is $6,000
- Facility and administrative costs are not eligible.
- Preference will be given to projects with broad applicability and significant potential impact on animal welfare and science

Requirements for proposals
Proposals should include a detailed description of the planned study, the expected results, and the methods for data analysis. Proposals should not exceed ten pages (excluding CVs). A breakdown of the proposed budget, including any additional sources of funding, must be included.

- Details of the proposal

Review criteria
- Impact on animal welfare
- Innovation of the proposal
- Likelihood of obtaining publishable data within the proposed timeframe
- Scope of applicability and impact
- Quality of study design

Successful applicants will be expected to submit a manuscript about their project and its results to a peer-reviewed journal. Acceptance of the award is contingent upon the funds for the proposed research not currently being available from other sources.
