Thuringian Animal Welfare Prize for organ-on-a-chip research Featured

The scientists Dr. Alexander Mosig and Dr. Knut Rennert from the University Hospital Jena and Prof. Stefan Lorkowski from the Institute of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Jena have been awarded with the this year’s Thuringian Animal Welfare Prize 2014.

The Thuringian researchers develop specific organ-on-a-chip models with which they can investigate cellular and metabolic processes, for example septic liver failure. The method is an animal-free alternative to animal tests, for which the researchers have been honoured with the Thuringian Animal Welfare Prize 2014.

InVitroJobs presented Dr. Mosig’s research group in 2011, in the category “Working Group - A Portrait”. The article can be read here.

This year, the Thuringian Animal Welfare Prize has been awarded for the twentieth time.
