Düsseldorf-based start-up DNTOX receives €1.4 million in investment funding Featured

DNTOX GmbH, based in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a bio-analytical testing laboratory that screens chemicals for its potential to disrupt human brain development and cause developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) without using animals. With its service, the research team has convinced investors and can now dispose of 1.4 million euros in start-up funding.

In March 2022, DNTOX was founded as a spin-off from the IUF - Leibniz Institute for Environmental Medicine Research. The start-up company has a long-standing expertise from Prof. Dr. Ellen Fritsche, who has already successfully developed an animal-free testing strategy for the investigation of developmental neurotoxicity in collaboration with European researchers and the European Food Safety Authority EFSA.

The scientists conduct their studies with an in vitro test battery that uses human cell models. In addition, the team has developed software that uses artificial intelligence to evaluate chemicals for its potential to disrupt brain development and cause developmental neurotoxicity.
