Biomathematician Dr. Maik Pietzner, group leader in the Computational Medicine group at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH), has won over the European Research Council for his novel research, which has awarded him a grant of 1.5 million euros over five years.
He wants to combine findings from genome sequencing with electronic health data and use artificial intelligence to search for previously unknown links between genetics and disease manifestation. He has already been successful with the rare Raynaud's syndrome, a functional blood flow disorder.
