Renowned in vitro researcher from Düsseldorf appointed head of SCAHT Featured

Prof. Dr. Ellen Fritsche has been appointed as director of the Swiss Center for Applied Human Toxicology (SCAHT) based in Basel.

Prof. Fritsche is an internationally recognized expert in the development and validation of alternative test methods and their use in chemical risk assessment. She is currently a full professor at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and working group leader at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine. One focus of her research is the regulatory use of a test system for quality-controlled, standardized characterization of developmental neurotoxicity (DNT), which is an integral part of the DNT in-vitro battery supported by EFSA and the OECD.

The SCAHT provides the Swiss authorities, the media, the public and third parties with expert advice and services in the field of regulatory toxicology. In addition, the center promotes research in applied human toxicology and supports the exchange of information and data between the individual toxicological disciplines. It is also involved in the European project PARC (Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals).
