Berlin: Round table discussion on animal welfare Featured

To mark the launch of the new animal welfare initiative “Eine Frage der Haltung - neue Wege für mehr Tierwohl” (The title is a double entendre meaning both “A question of husbandry methods - new paths for animals’ well-being” and “A question of one’s bearing - new paths [...]”), the German Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Christian Schmidt, invited several animal rights and animal welfare organizations to the Ministry on 21 October for an exchange of views.

Item 9 of the Ministry’s key issues paper on the animal welfare offensive addresses a reduction of the number of animals tested on. The Federal Association for People for Animal Rights, initiator of the project InVitroJobs, took the opportunity to present a number of key demands from a recently published catalogue of measures for promoting animal-free test methods.
