Switzerland: Info-Day on Green Toxicology Featured

On 23 October, Empa Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology will host an information day on green toxicology in Dübendorf, Switzerland. The registration deadline is the 15th of October.

In green toxicology, scientists apply predictive toxicology with the goal of improving molecule and process design to reduce the hazards caused by chemicals. There are twelve principles of green chemistry described on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website (http://www.epa.gov/sciencematters/june2011/principles.htm). These principles were first published by Paul Anastas und John Warner in 1998.

One of the 12 central points is hazard reduction in chemicals production by means of developing synthesis methods for reducing toxicity. A second important target is the design of fully degradable molecules.
