Animal testing for cosmetic products and their ingredients was already banned in Europe in 2009 and a sales ban on cosmetics tested on animals has been in place since 2013. Despite this EU ban on animal testing in the field of cosmetics, authorities still require ingredients of cosmetic products to be tested on animals, which is contrary to the expectations and wishes of the public and also the intention of the legislators.

Many European citizens are opposed to this and can make this known by signing the ongoing European Citizens' Initiative.
